If you’ve got an oily T-zone but experience dryness in other areas, then you’ve got combination skin. If you aren’t a fan of a matte finish, you can still rock natural-finish or dewy foundations with the help of a mattifying primer and setting powder. Mattifying foundations will keep you looking fresh for longer and are the most long-wearing option. Look for either pressed powder or a cream foundation, which can help minimize the appearance of pores and absorb excess oil to keep it from surfacing. If you have shiny skin, the best foundation for oily skin is typically oil-free and mattifying. In fact, if your skin’s lacking hydration, it’ll compensate by producing more oil, resulting in oily skin! Get out of this vicious cycle by using a moisturiser with the correct ingredients for your skin type, like hyaluronic acid, which’ll help your skin retain moisture better. If you’ve got dry skin but want to try a matte foundation, always exfoliate beforehand, moisturise well and use a hydrating primer to keep the foundation from looking dry or cakey.Ī common misconception people have: ”I don’t need to moisturise if I have oily skin.” Excessive oil production shouldn’t be confused with hydration. Use a liquid or cream foundation packed with nutrient-rich oils, rather than powder foundation, which could irritate dry areas and absorb essential moisture away. Hydrating and illuminating foundations do wonders for dry skin, leaving you with a fresh, dewy finish. Many foundations for dry skin today contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring compound that helps skin maintain a healthy moisture balance. Foundations that contain salicylic acid (or any type of exfoliating ingredients) can be a good option to help reduce redness, treating blemishes as it disguises them so your skin is on the road to recovery and not another flare up.įor skin types that are typically parched, finding a foundation that doesn't strip away hydration is a must. Try textures that are buildable, allowing your skin to breathe, instead of suffocating under full coverage. Look for an oil-free foundation that isn’t too dry and is formulated without potential irritants like fragrances and mineral oils that could cause a breakout. Thankfully, it’s easier than ever to find foundations full of nourishing ingredients, like coconut oil, vitamins and antioxidants, that still offer great coverage.įinding foundation for blemish-prone skin that doesn’t do more harm than good can be frustrating. Look for the simplest and most natural formulas that are free of synthetic oils, parabens or fillers to prevent triggering a reaction. Cargo capacity is smaller than competing luxury SUVs, with 20.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 56.5 cubic feet with them folded flat. The front seats are optimally shaped and padded for hours of touring, and the rear seats easily accommodate 6-foot-tall passengers. The good thing is you can still control everything through the dial as well.ĭespite having a compact SUV footprint, the GLC interior is remarkably spacious and comfortable. It's an intriguing concept, but it requires a very steady hand and quite a bit of patience. The Premium 2 package adds a touchpad controller that hovers above the dial and accepts smartphone-like gestures (pinch-to-zoom and swipes) as well as alphanumeric fingertip traces. Once acclimated, it becomes second nature. The driver interface system employs a dial controller, much like the ones found in Audi and BMW rivals, but it does take a bit longer for new users to get used to how the menus are organized and operated. Only essential buttons and knobs are present, with supporting systems controlled through the infotainment system. The quality of materials and solid construction are excellent. The modern design features a graceful center stack wrapped in a single wood veneer as it transitions into the center console. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class' interior is nearly identical to that of the C-Class sedan on which it is based, and that's a very good thing. Notably, we picked the Mercedes-Benz GLC as one of Edmunds' Best Used Luxury SUVs for 2017. This stopping distance is typical for small luxury crossovers with large wheels and summer tires. In Edmunds testing, a rear-wheel-drive GLC300 with 20-inch wheels and summer tires came to a stop from 60 mph in 116 feet. The Mbrace Secure telematics system includes automatic collision notification, emergency assistance, agent-assisted remote unlock and stolen vehicle location assistance.įeatures such as blind-spot warning (and automatic intervention), lane departure warning, lane departure intervention, enhanced forward collision intervention with pedestrian detection, and forward cross-traffic collision detection and intervention are available with the Premium packages. Standard safety features for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 include antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, a driver knee airbag, full-length side curtain airbags, trailer sway control, crosswind assistance, a forward collision warning system, a forward collision intervention system with automatic braking, Pre-Safe (takes measures to secure the cabin and occupants when a crash is imminent) and a drowsy driver warning system. The BMW X3 and Audi Q5 are showing their age just a bit, but they continue to be strong contenders in the class. The new Jaguar F-Pace is similar in size and function and earned top marks from our staff along with the Porsche Macan. Although we highly recommend the GLC in this class, its rivals are worth considering. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 shares 70 percent of its parts with the praiseworthy C-Class sedan, giving it a solid base of aesthetic appeal, driver engagement and maneuverability. Stroud completed 28 of 44 passes for 242 yards and Richardson was 24 of 37 for 223 yards with a touchdown and ran for another score. “I’m rooting for him and I hope that everything in his career goes well, except for when he plays the Texans,” Stroud said with a laugh.īoth rookies will be looking for their first win Sunday after the Texans lost 25-9 to the Ravens in their opener and Indianapolis was defeated 31-21 by Jacksonville.ĭespite the losses, both quarterbacks did some good things in their NFL debuts after Stroud was taken second overall in this year’s draft and Richardson was selected two picks later. On Sunday, the two quarterbacks will put aside those warm feelings when Stroud leads the Houston Texans against Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts. Stroud and Anthony Richardson are good friends who have known each other since high school. That streak is also the longest by any Texans kicker all-time.
“You can get one year out of a chicken, but three years out of a duck,” says Piccinin. Once they’re hatched, ducks grow faster and produce eggs longer than chickens. “You keep them for two weeks like that before you start collecting eggs for hatching.” “When it’s breeding time, they get their own pens,” says Murphy. They like to be fed at the same time every day, and by the same person every day.”įourteen varieties require a bit of extra work, though, when it comes to Murphy’s end of the process. “They need a lot more water, and they’re messier, too. “They’re not as aggressive with each other,” says Murphy. They soon found, though, that raising ducks is preferable to raising chickens. Piccinin also farmed with her family since childhood, and after a brief detour working in the oil industry in Grande Prairie, Alta., returned to the Creston Valley and started Root and Vine Acres in Erickson in 2009, moving to Wynndel prior to last year’s growing season. Every year, her family bought a cow and a pig, and she also helped slaughter chickens, to which she is allergic. Murphy’s family farms on Prince Edward Island, and she grew up on a hobby farm near Airdrie, Alta. They figured it out quickly, though farming is in their blood. “If we had 300 eggs a day, we wouldn’t have known what the heck we were doing,” laughs Piccinin. All of the ducks made it safely through the journey, but immediately started a six-week moult and stopped laying, giving Murphy and Piccinin time to prepare. Three weeks later, they were the proud owners of 362 ducks, which they brought over the Kootenay Pass - in January - on a few trucks loaded with cages. “She said may be she’d start a hatchery.” “The day before I went, Tammy was over with Jodi and said she didn’t want to go back to work tree planting,” says Piccinin. “She had a lot of people contact her, but they were like, ‘I’ll buy incubators,’ or ‘I’ll buy a couple of ducks,’ ” says Piccinin.ĭickie messaged Piccinin on Facebook, so she decided to take a look, which proved to be timely. But she wasn’t receiving any suitable offers. Quack Me Up was started in the Slocan Valley in 2011, and original owner Mee-len Dickie put it up for sale in late 2015. “When you bake with a duck egg, it has a lot more loft, and just rich, velvety deliciousness,” says Piccinin, adding that even an overcooked duck egg maintains a velvety texture. With a yolk twice the size of a chicken egg, duck eggs react differently when cooking or baking. “She’s one of our best customers now,” says Piccinin. They also have higher protein and iron, and more good fats and fewer bad fats than chicken eggs.Ī woman at the Nelson farmers’ market said she hadn’t eaten chicken eggs for five years, so Piccinin gave her a sample of duck eggs to try. Duck eggs form alkaline instead of acid, which can make them suitable for people with irritable bowel syndrome or those undergoing cancer treatments. “Basically, all we’re going to do is feed the valley.”Īnd they’re feeding customers a healthier product. “It’s amazing how it came together like that,” says Piccinin. And in Yahk, Murphy deals with Quack Me Up’s hatching and breeding stock, and runs the Rabbit Tree, a rabbitry, with her partner, Jodi Bults, who is studying to be a butcher and worked for Piccinin. In Wynndel, Piccinin owns Root and Vine Acres, producing vegetables, fruit and meat, and the Walking Olive Tree, creating smokies. With nearly 300 eggs to collect every day from 14 varieties of pasture-raised ducks, smiling is almost guaranteed for the owners of Quack Me Up, who are already keeping busy with other agriculture-related businesses. “There’s really just not a day where they’re not making me smile,” says Murphy. It was a random text from Tammy Murphy to business partner Jessica Piccinin, but a simple way to express her feelings about their latest venture. These include Penguin, Stalactites, ForeCell, and Seahaven Towers. And you can now find websites offering you the chance to play FreeCell online, free of charge.įreeCell has also inspired a host of new solitaire variants. As a result, it has spawned numerous websites and groups dedicated to it. Thanks to Microsoft’s move, FreeCell is one of the more popular games played today. And they’ve included a free FreeCell game ever since. This earliest free FreeCell also allowed players to play with 4 to 10 columns and 1 to 10 cells, expanding on the classic 8 column x 4 cell board layout.īut the game hit it off when Microsoft decided to bundle it as one of the pre-installed games in their Windows operating system back in 1995. One of the more significant changes Alfille made to Baker’s Game was to make the card builds in alternating suit colors, thus creating the modern FreeCell game we know today. It was based on a game called Eight Off, which was in turn based on a much older solitaire game called Baker’s Game, popular among the English in the 1920s. He used the school’s PLATO computer system to program the game, writing it with the TUTOR programming language.Īlfille’s version was the first computerized version of FreeCell, but it wasn’t the first. What’s the History of FreeCell Solitaire?įreeCell Solitaire was first introduced to the world by Paul Alfille in 1972, then a medical student at the University of Illinois. If you like playing free FreeCell, you should also consider the Spider variant as they have many similarities. In fact, scientists recognize that the game is a great way for people with cognitive problems to train their brains. In many ways, the thinking required for FreeCell is akin to that of chess. Of course, you shouldn’t mistake this to mean that FreeCell is an easy game – it still relies on a lot of brainpower and tactics in order to successfully solve. This makes the game easier to solve in many ways because you can already plan several moves ahead to play the cards strategically. To put this into perspective, if you play a numbered series of FreeCell games, your 11,982nd session would be the first unsolvable game you’ll encounter. In comparison, the classic solitaire only features an 80% win rate. As a result, almost 99.99% of all FreeCell deals can be solved, making it the solitaire game with the best odds. Thus, a free FreeCell game relies more on tactics than luck. The biggest difference when you play FreeCell online, however, is that all cards are already dealt face up at the beginning of the game. You also place cards into the main piles (called the tableau) in numerical order but alternating colors, much like the original. Like most solitaire games, the goal is for the player to move all cards to the foundation piles (one for each suit) and from ace to king. FreeCell is a classic variation of the solitaire family of card games played using a standard 52-card deck. So how could that be done? The answer was obvious enough: decoupled Drupal.Īmazee Labs revisited decoupled Drupal. One of the solutions was to create 12 different Drupal themes, but the client also wanted to work with multiple independent development teams. These sites needed to look and function differently, but use a single content data source. Case study – October 2016Ī client wanted to implement 12 different sites powered by the same backend. However, things changed for Amazee Labs in October 2016, when decoupled Drupal became the solution for one of their clients. In fact, they thought the blog: Black Post – Headless Drupal – The Cake is a Lie External Link captured it well. In the past, they’d stayed away from it because of several concerns: Michael talked about the fact that when the idea of decoupled Drupal was first introduced between 20, Amazee Labs wasn’t a big fan. Apart from Drupal, the company tries to explore other innovative technologies and more recently started using React applications with Drupal as a backend. Michael Schmid (CTO) kicked off the presentation, talking about Amazee Labs and some of its history with Drupal. You can also view the full presentation on YouTube External Link. Below is a summary of their talk - with some updates to ensure the blog’s relevance directly from Michael Schmid. And while that’s nearly a year ago (time flies!) Michael and Brandon’s presentation on the future of Drupal is thought-provoking and extremely relevant today. DrupalCon Baltimore was a five-day Drupal extravaganza in April 2017. He shall hatch at least once a week or twice a week, then his incubator capacity can be 3 times or 6 times of his hatcher capacity. Otherwise, the hatching result will reduce. And eggs usually shall not be stored for more than one week before incubation. With one machine working for both functions at different time, the investor can save cost when buying the machine, as he only need one cabinet with two kinds of trolleys and trays/baskets.ģ.6 If an investor has his own parent stock breeders, then he will get eggs every day from the farm. Or if he have several layer farms, and every one month or more he need one batch of chicks. For example, if he only have one or two broiler farm, he may need one batch of chicks every month or more. And incubator's egg turning function shall also come with the machine.ģ.5 When an investor is buying eggs from other places, hatch chicks once every 21 days or more, then he can use the incubator like this. So a machine want to have both functions, then the egg capacity will be limted by the hatcher capacity.ģ.3 As temperature/humidity setting for incubator and hatcher are different, so after the machine changed from incubator to hatcher, the settings shall be modified.ģ.4 Both incubator trolleys with egg trays and hatcher trolleys with hatching baskets shall be equipped with the machine cabinet when buying the machine. Very few company make hatchers with capacity more than this. So practically, most incubator suppliers only make hatchers witch capacity usually 10,000~20,000 eggs, and some make upto about 40,000 eggs. and if there are too many chicks stay inside one machine, it will be hard to control a proper temperature inside. Because inside hatcher, chicks give out a lot of heat. Can a machine work as both incubator and hatcher?ģ.1 If the two functions are not used at same time, then the incubator can be possible to be used also as a hatcher too.ģ.2 The machine with two functions shall have a proper capacity. So during hatching period, it will be much more dirty than incubation period.ģ. For example, the temperature of eggs in the incubator is usually about 38☌, and the temperature of eggs in the hatcher is about 37☌.Ģ.4 When chicks come out, the hairy chicks' tiny feathers will bring a lot of fluff inside the machines. So that the setting temperature and humidty are usually different between incubator and hatcher. And when chicks come out from the egg shells, the water inside the eggs will also come out, and influence the humidity level inside the hatcher. This structure also facilitates the circulation of air around the eggs, for the eggs to obtain enough oxygen, and the circulation air easier to transfer heat to or from the eggs.Ģ.2 When the chicks are ready to come out from the shell, there is no need to rotate the eggs, and the eggs also need to be transferred to a basket to prevent the chicks from falling out of the hole in the egg tray of the incubator.Ģ.3 When chicks start pipping out, the chicks change to use lungs to breathe, and give out much more heat than before days. Therefore, modern incubators generally design the egg tray as a structure with holes, and put the eggs in each hole, so that the rotation of the eggs can be conveniently realized by the rotation of the egg tray. What are the differences between incubator (setter) and hatcher?Ģ.1 During the early incubation process, the eggs need to be rotated frequently to prevent the embryos from adhering to the surrounding membranes. |
